Locum and salaried GPs – sessional doctors

Sessional GPs

As a Sessional GP you might not be part of a practice, but if you are a locum you are still running a business.

We can help set you up as self employed and advise you on record keeping and tax savings.

We can look at ways of minimizing your taxes whilst ensuring you remain within the rules.

We offer a prompt turnaround – so if you get your information to us early after the end of the tax year, we’ll be able to give you maximum warning of your tax liabilities.  Prior to this, if you know roughly what your income is going to be, we can also give you an idea of how much you should be saving.

If you are locuming on a temporary basis, but hoping to join a practice as a partner, we are happy to review practice accounts for you and give you some guidance before you commit to joining.

An initial meeting is free of charge and we offer a fixed fee service, which can be paid monthly to spread the cost.

Fixed fee rates for :

  • Accounts and tax return £395 plus VAT
  • Accounts, tax return and National Insurance review £495 plus VAT
  • Tax Health Check £150
  • Professional fee protection insurance £120
  • Full package – to include a tax health check (£175 by itself) and PFP (£120 by itself) in the event of a Revenue enquiry £645 plus VAT  (£625 plus VAT for NASGP members)

Hospital doctors

Do you need to complete a tax return?

  • Are you claiming for all your subscriptions?
  • Do you have multiple or successive employments?
  • Do you have taxable benefits in your employment?
  • Do you receive any untaxed income?
  • Are you a higher rate taxpayer with investment income?
  • Do you check and understand your notice of coding?

In any of these cases you may need to complete a tax return.

It is important to review whether the correct amount of tax has been paid.

For example:

  • We have seen substantial underpayments of tax where doctors have had multiple employments and incorrect tax codes have been operated.
  • We have been able to claim repayments, going back a number of years, for clients where professional subscriptions had not been claimed.

A free initial consultation will show you how we can help you.
